HAMPTON, Va. — Stony Brook softball completed a sweep of Hampton, defeating the Pirates 13-0 on Sunday afternoon in Virginia.
Naiah Ackerman and
Kyra McFarland combined to drive in seven runs in a run-rule victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stony Brook sent 12 hitters to the plate in the first inning, scoring eight runs on six hits. McFarland tallied two hits, two runs scored and two RBI in the first frame.
- Hampton loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first, but Crimson Rice left them loaded after a ground out and a fly out.
- After a big first inning, Stony Brook's offense went quietly in the second inning. The Seawolves tacked on two runs in the third when Ackerman homered to center.
- Stony Brook added three more runs to go ahead 13-0 after four innings.
- Rice faced the minimum in the fourth and fifth innings, finishing off Stony Brook's second straight shutout win over Hampton.
STATS AND NOTES
- The Seawolves scored eight times in the first inning, sending 12 batters to the plate.
- Eight different Seawolves registered a hit, five Seawolves recorded multiple hits and six players tallied an RBI.
- Rice picked up her second win of the weekend, improving to 4-4 this season. She allowed three hits, tossing her second complete-game shutout of the year.
- Ackerman, McFarland and Marissa Thalassinos all tallied multiple RBI in the victory.
- Stony Brook outscored Hampton 32-1 over the course of the weekend. The Seawolves outscored their competition 40-2 during a five-game week.
- The victory was Stony Brook's fourth straight, sixth in its last seven games and fifth straight against a conference foe.
- With the win, Stony Brook improved to 7-5 in the league and secured its first series sweep.
