RICHMOND, Va. — Stony Brook men's basketball's
CJ Luster II (Third Team) and
Collin O'Connor (All-Rookie) earned postseason recognition, as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Luster averaged 18.4 ppg during conference play, the fourth-best mark in the league. He connected on 98 three-pointers during regular season play, scoring from deep at a 42.1 percent clip. Luster was also ultra efficient at the charity stripe, shooting 87.2 percent from the line. Luster ranked top-five in the CAA in all three statistical categories.
Luster played in and started all 31 games for the Seawolves, registering double-digit points in 23 contests and posting 20 or more points on 13 occasions. The junior college transfer from Denton, Texas poured in a season-high 31 points in a home win against North Carolina A&T in mid-January, beginning a stretch where he scored in double figures in 10 of Stony Brook's final 11 regular-season contests.
O'Connor started at point guard in 28 of Stony Brook's 31 contests, logging a full 40 minutes in eight of the Seawolves' final 10 games of the regular season. O'Connor played every minute of six straight contests from January 30 until February 15, the longest such stretch by a CAA player since 2016. During that span, O'Connor tallied double-digit points five times, including a season-best 27 points on the road at UNC Wilmington.
O'Connor led the team in minutes played and assists, and finished inside the top-10 in the CAA in both categories. His 1.34 assist/turnover ratio was 12th best in the league and second-best among freshmen. The Dayton, Ohio product ended the regular season with a 46:28 assist to turnover ratio over the final 11 games, handing out at least four assists in seven of the final 11 contests. He earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors four times during the regular season and twice earned recognition during the conference season.
