STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Stony Brook softball captured a 10th straight conference victory behind a season-best 14 runs in a five-inning victory over Monmouth on Saturday.
Nicole Allen and
Kyra McFarland combined to drive in nine runs in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Monmouth started things on a rain-soaked Saturday with a bang when Gianna Scotti led off with a solo shot off of Maddie Male. After the ambush, Male settled in and retired the next three hitters.
- Stony Brook responded in a big way, sending 13 batters to the plate in the first inning en route to a nine-spot offensively. Allen opened the scoring for the Seawolves with a three-run blast to center before Emily Reinstein and Malorie Hill tallied on run-scoring hits.
- Later in the frame, Allen drove in her fourth and fifth runs of the game with a single to make it 9-1.
- The Hawks scored twice in the second inning, forcing Stony Brook to go to a reliever early. The Seawolves opted to go to Jordyn Fray, who allowed an inherited runner to score but stranded a pair to get through the second inning.
- Back-to-back doubles by Naiah Ackerman and McFarland put Stony Brook ahead 12-3 after the second frame.
- Fray made quick work of Monmouth in the third and fourth innings, allowing her offense to add some insurance.
- McFarland blasted an opposite-field, two-run homer in the fourth, pushing Stony Brook's advantage to 11 runs.
- Gabrielle Maday took to the circle for the fifth inning, allowing a pair of two-out baserunners before closing the door to secure the series victory.
