WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Stony Brook men's track and field competed at the Wake Forest Invitational on Thursday and Friday, ending the event with several strong showings and a record-breaking performance.

Collin Gilstrap made history on Friday night by setting a new program record in the 1500m, surpassing the record he established the previous year.

Henry Gartner, Steven Struk, and Michael Hawkes all recorded strong runs in the 5000m event, with Struk and Gartner both placing inside the top-10 and setting new PR's in the race.

  • Gartner finished third with an impressive performance in the 5000m. Setting a new PR with a 14:15.78 clocking.
  • Struk finished seventh in the 5000m. He set a new PR in the event with a final time of 14:17.32.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES

"Collin had a very good run tonight, and with a battling run down, the finishing straight knocked his school 1500m record down to 3:40.94," head coach Andy Ronan noted. "He finished third in his section and 11th overall in the event. This time has him ranked inside the top 30 in the East Region, putting him in a good position for a return trip to the NCAA first round at the end of May. On Thursday night in the 5000m, Henry and Steve finished in the top 10 in their section, third and seventh, and both produced PR's to do so, 14:15.78 and 14:17.32, respectively. Mike Hawkes had a solid run in the same section, finishing at 14:28.78. Most likely, all three will be ranked inside the top 5 in the CAA after the weekend."
