Four Seawolves Garner Men’s Lacrosse All-CAA Honors

RICHMOND, Va. — Four Stony Brook men's lacrosse student-athletes garnered all-conference distinction, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning. Robbie Smith and Kian McCoy were selected to the All-CAA Second Team, while McCoy also joined Brendan Marino and Caleb Yeung on the CAA All-Rookie Team.

Smith played in all 14 games, providing stability at the X for Stony Brook. Smith won 10 or more face-offs in seven contests, including six of the final seven games. Smith's 128 face-off wins were the most in the CAA and his .604 face-off percentage was the third-best mark in the conference. Smith also scooped up 82 ground balls, the second-most in the league. He won 20 face-offs and grabbed 18 ground balls in a win over Monmouth, the single most individually in a CAA game this season. Offensively, Smith added four goals and an assist during the year.

McCoy played in all 14 games, making 10 starts as a freshman. The midfielder totaled 33 points on 15 goals and 18 assists. His 18 helpers and 33 points were second-most on the team, while his 15 goals were third-most among the Seawolves' freshmen class. McCoy tallied multiple points in nine games and scored multiple goals in four contests. His six points (three goals, three assists) in a win over No. 12 Fairfield were a season-high, earning him CAA Rookie of the Week and USILA Team of the Week recognition.

Marino led all Stony Brook rookies with 20 goals, adding four assists during the season. His 20 goals were third most on the team. Marino, who played in 12 games and made nine starts for Stony Brook, scored multiple goals in five contests. He netted hat tricks in four of those contests, including a season-best five goals at Towson and three tallies in a win over No. 12 Fairfield. Marino was twice recognized as the CAA Rookie of the Week during his freshman campaign.

Yeung played in and started all 14 games in the midfield for Stony Brook as a rookie. He amassed 25 points on 18 goals and 7 assists. All four totals ranked fourth on the team. He tallied at least one point in 11 contests and notched multiple points in eight games. He registered hat tricks on the road at Queens and Drexel and ended the season with a season-best four points (two goals, two assists) in a record-setting win over Hampton. He scored the decisive goal in Stony Brook's 17-16 victory over No. 12 Fairfield, finishing with a pair of goals and a helper.
