PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Stony Brook softball rolled by Drexel, 14-0, in five innings on Thursday in Philadelphia.
Alyssa Costello hit a pair of homers and drove in six runs in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Costello started things on Thursday with a two-run shot after Kyra McFarland led off with a single.
- Stony Brook scored eight more runs in the second inning, opening up a 10-0 lead over Drexel. Emma Scheitinger doubled and homered in the frame, Costello drove home a pair with a double in an inning where the Seawolves sent 11 hitters to the plate.
- Staked to a double-digit lead, Crimson Rice retired the side in order in the second inning.
- The Seawolves tacked on three more runs in the third, with Costello providing her second homer of the afternoon to make it 13-0.
- After Rice registered a second straight 1-2-3 inning, Naiah Ackerman pushed the lead to 14 runs with a run-scoring double.
- Stony Brook did not score in the fifth inning, the only inning it did not register a run in.
- Rice closed the door on Drexel in the fifth, stranding two runners to complete the shutout.
STATS AND NOTES
- Costello's two home runs signified the first multi-HR game of her collegiate career and her six RBI are a career high.
- Ackerman, Emily Reinstein, Scheitinger and Mia Vannelli drove in a run apiece.
- Seven different Seawolves scored a run in the win. Costello, McFarland and Scheitinger all scored three runs.
- Five different Seawolves registered three hits: Nicole Allen, Ackerman, Costello, McFarland and Scheitinger.
- Crimson Rice scattered three hits in a five-inning shutout of Drexel, collecting her 10th win of the season.
- Stony Brook matched a season-best effort with 16 hits, three home runs and four stolen bases.
