RICHMOND, Va. – The Stony Brook baseball team had three players honored on the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) All-Conference teams, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Infielder
Erik Paulsen and designated hitter
Nico Azpilcueta were named to the All-CAA First Team, while outfielder
Matthew Jackson earned Honorable Mention recognition. Paulsen was also selected as the 2025 CAA Defensive Player of the Year.
Paulsen, who was previously named a CAA Player of the Week and placed on the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List, led the Seawolves in nearly every offensive category. The junior paced the team with a .358 batting average, 67 hits, 16 doubles, 23 multi-hit games, and a .453 on-base percentage. He also set career highs in home runs (9), RBI (44), runs scored (45), and stolen bases (8).
Defensively, Paulsen anchored the infield at first base. He committed just two errors all season, posting a .995 fielding percentage and going error-free in conference play. He totaled 395 putouts and 426 chances, and helped turn 41 double plays - most in the CAA and 24th nationally.
Azpilcueta made a massive impact in his first season with the Seawolves, putting together one of the most prolific offensive campaigns in program history. The senior led the CAA with 20 home runs and tallied 62 RBI - marks that rank second and third, respectively, in Stony Brook single-season history. He began the season by reaching base in 39 straight games and finished with a .321 batting average. Azpilcueta led the team in at-bats (194), runs (49), total bases (138), slugging percentage (.711), multi-RBI games (22), and sacrifice flies (7), while also going a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
Jackson enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, setting career highs in nearly every major offensive category. He batted .324 with a .434 on-base percentage, collecting 35 hits, 18 RBI, 5 home runs, and 17 walks. A threat on the basepaths, he stole 16 bases in 18 attempts - second most on the team.
