Back in the Big Apple: Travis Jankowski ’12 Joins Mets Roster

6/24/2025 2:59:00 PM

FLUSHING, N.Y. — Stony Brook Hall of Famer and 2023 World Series Champion Travis Jankowski '12 is back in Queens. The New York Mets announced Monday that they have selected Jankowski's contract from Triple-A Syracuse, adding the veteran outfielder to the 26-man roster.

"I've played every day, I've come off the bench, pinch hit, pinch ran, defensive replacement...everything but pitch. And if [Carlos Mendoza] asks me to pitch, I'll go out there and eat an inning up," Jankowski said to SNY reporters. "I couldn't stay away, I had to come back. I like New York too much."

This marks Jankowski's second stint with the Mets after previously suiting up for the club during the 2022 season. Now 34 years old, he has appeared in 21 games across the 2025 campaign with the White Sox and Rays, posting a .244/.286/.289 slash line. He will serve as a reserve outfielder for New York.

Jankowski is coming off his 10th Major League season, which he spent with the Texas Rangers. In 2023, he played a key role in Texas' championship run, appearing in 104 games and contributing 38 hits, six extra-base knocks, and 11 stolen bases. That same season, he enjoyed a career year — hitting .263/.357/.332 with a .689 OPS, 30 RBI, 19 stolen bases (in 20 attempts), and a 1.4 WAR, while recording a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

During the 2023 postseason, Jankowski made history for Stony Brook baseball. He became the first Seawolf to appear in an ALCS game (Oct. 16 vs. Houston), the first to record a hit in the ALCS (Oct. 23, Game 7), and the first to play in the World Series (Game 3 vs. Arizona). In Game 4, Jankowski made the most of his opportunity, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in Texas' 11–7 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Over the course of his MLB career, Jankowski has appeared in 681 games with six different organizations (Padres, Reds, Phillies, Mets, Mariners, Rangers), tallying 355 hits, 212 runs scored, 102 stolen bases, and 96 RBI in more than 1,500 at-bats.

A 2012 first-round pick, Jankowski remains one of the most decorated players in Stony Brook history. He was named the 2012 ABCA/Rawlings National Co-Player of the Year, a First-Team All-American by four outlets, and helped lead the Seawolves on their unforgettable run to the College World Series. That season, he led the nation in hits, runs scored, and triples, and remains the only Seawolf to ever be named National Player of the Year.

Jankowski is one of five Stony Brook alumni to reach the Major Leagues, along with Daniel Zamora, Nick Tropeano, Tom Koehler, and Joe Nathan.

The Mets continue their homestand tonight as they host the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field in Game 2 of a four-game set.
