STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook volleyball team officially revealed its full schedule for the 2025 season on Tuesday. The Seawolves will begin the season with a trio of non-conference tournaments before moving on to CAA competition for the remainder of the year.
"We're excited to have put a preseason schedule together with opponents that will prepare us well for CAA competition," stated head coach
Kristin Belzung. "With a big incoming freshman class we will have new faces in the program and our home tournament will be a great chance for fans to meet them early. The other highlight is our trip to Dallas where we get the opportunity to face off against some programs who are perennially some of the best in the country at SMU. We think it's a great schedule and are excited to get our team on campus."
Competition begins in Pritchard Gymnasium this year with the program's first home tournament since 2022. The season opener is set for August 29 as the Seawolves face CCSU for the first time since 2008. They then host Siena on the 30th and Rhode Island on the 31st. All four teams will play each other once in the event.
The following week, SBU hits the road for the first time as the team heads to Dallas, Texas to take on three teams that made the 2024 NCAA Tournament in an MTE hosted by SMU. First up will be a Northern Iowa squad fresh off its third consecutive MVC title and NCAA Tournament appearance on September 4. Then, on September 5, Stony Brook will face Washington, who returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2024 after missing out on the postseason the year prior for the first time since 2001. This will be Stony Brook's first ever meeting with UNI and Washington. The Seawolves conclude their time in Dallas on September 6 against the hosts as they challenge a Mustangs team coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.
Stony Brook wraps up its non-conference slate the next week in Smithfield, Rhode Island as the team competes in the Bryant Invitational. The Seawolves will first play 2024 Patriot League runner-up Army on September 12, followed by St. Thomas in its first year of postseason eligibility on the 13th. SBU closes things out on September 14th against Bryant in the non-conference finale.
Moving on to conference play, the CAA opener is set for September 19-20 with Stony Brook kicking things off at home against Northeastern. The two split the season series last year with a win apiece.
The Seawolves then close out the month with two games against Hampton (Sept. 26-27). The teams last faced each other in 2023, with Stony Brook coming out on top with a pair of 3-0 sweeps.
The team is back on Long Island to open October with two matches against William & Mary (Oct. 3-4), followed by a bye week. The Seawolves will then make the short trip over to Hempstead to battle it out against rival Hofstra on the 17th and 18th. SBU split both series against the Tribe and the Lions in 2024.
Stony Brook returns home to face Campbell on October 24-25. The last time the teams met was in the final series of the 2024 regular season in which the Seawolves swept the Camels to punch their ticket to the CAA Championship.
The following week, SBU is back on the road in Maryland from October 31-November 1 as the Seawolves look to claim their first ever victory against Towson. The Tigers ended Stony Brook's season last year with a 3-0 loss in the opening round of the CAA Championship.
The Seawolves finish off their home slate on November 7-8 as they host North Carolina A&T. Each team picked up a win last year as both matches went to five sets in the closest series of the season for either team.
Stony Brook closes out the regular season down in Wilmington, N.C. from November 14-15 as the team goes for its first ever win against UNCW.
The CAA Championship will take place from November 21-23. A host site has not yet been announced. Stony Brook will look to qualify for its fourth consecutive championship berth since joining the conference in 2022 and eighth overall during coach Belzung's tenure.
