STONY BROOK, NY - In the opening match of the 2025 season, Stony Brook and Marist remained deadlocked at 0-0 for most of the night until a late Red Fox goal put them in front as the Seawolves eventually fell 1-0 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
Stony Brook officially begins its season 0-1.
How it Happened
Both teams went scoreless in the first half, with Stony Brook's defense keeping Marist from recording even a single shot on goal.
In the second half, the Red Foxes came out aggressive on offense, recording three shots on goal in the first five minutes. Facing his first real threat of the night, Heidar Hermannsson stopped all three shots of the opening barrage. He would make two more saves over the next 28 minutes, until Marist, in the 78th minute, broke the stalemate with a goal from Evan Marques. Hermannson would make one more save in the final 10 minutes to keep the game within reach. Despite 10 total shots for the Seawolves in the second half, though, the offense was unable to get through to Marist goalkeeper Jamie Lowell.
