WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Stony Brook and Monmouth played to a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening in New Jersey. Jamie Orson and Finlay Oliver netted a pair of goals to even the score on separate occasions en route to the Seawolves earning a point to begin conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Monmouth opened the scoring less than 20 minutes in when Victor Andersson netted his first goal of the game on a cross into the middle of the box. The Seawolves responded to tie things up on a goal from Jamie Orson, his first of the season and his first as a Seawolf, just eight minutes later. Sebastian Drummond and Alex Fleury registered assists on the goal, scored off a setpiece.
Monmouth went on top 2-1 on another goal from Andersson's early on in the second half, but Stony Brook's resiliency showed. The Seawolves leveled things again with a goal from Oliver, his first of the season. Stony Brook again found the back of the net off of a setpiece and again fought back from a deficit to even the score. The score held throughout the final 20-plus minutes of action, seeing both programs walk away with a point to begin conference play.
STATS AND NOTES
- Orson's first tally of the seaon, and the first of his Stony Brook career, evened the score at one apiece in the first half.
- Oliver followed suit in the second half, scoring Stony Brook's second equalizer of the evening. Oliver's goal was his first of the 2025 campaign and the fifth of his career. He leads the team with two goals and four points through three matches.
- Heidar Hermannsson totaled three saves for the Seawolves out of 16 total Hawks shots.
