HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Stony Brook fell to Hofstra 3-0 on Saturday evening in Hempstead. Stony Brook finished with a 10-9 edge in shots in the contest, but could not find the back of the net, suffering its first conference loss of 2025.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both sides had solid chances on goal in the opening 20 minutes of action, but both keepers were up to the task to keep things scoreless in the early going. Hofstra opened the scoring with a penalty-kick goal in the 24th minute after an attacker was taken down in the box. The officials went to the monitor to overturn the original call which awarded the Pride a corner kick. After review, Hofstra converted on the penalty kick to go ahead 1-0.
The Seawolves trailed entering the break and despite eight of Stony Brook's 10 total shots coming during the final 45 minutes, it was Hofstra that scored twice in the second half to pull out a 3-0 victory. The Pride tallied goals in the 54th and 76th minute.
