Football Extends Winning Streak with Road Victory over Towson

TOWSON, Md. - The Stony Brook football team earned its third straight victory on Saturday night, taking down Towson 31-24 at Johnny Unitas Stadium. The Seawolves improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in CAA play with the road win.

Quinn Boyd accounted for three touchdowns, throwing for one and rushing for two, while CJ Hester and Seth Sweitzer each found the end zone. DaMario Crawford added a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown, and the defense was led by Khalid Bueno who had 4.5 tackles for loss and Ryan Barrett recording his first interception of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Towson won the toss and elected to receive, but the Stony Brook defense forced a punt after Bueno and Regis combined for a sack and Calgaro recorded a tackle for loss.
  • The Seawolves opened the scoring with a seven-play, 77-yard drive capped by a 15-yard touchdown pass from Boyd to Dely. Boyd connected with Sweitzer for 18 yards earlier in the drive before rushing for 28 yards on third-and-one to set up the score.
  • Regis recorded a sack on Towson's next possession to help force another punt with 6:29 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Sweitzer recorded his first career rush on the ensuing drive with a nine-yard gain, but the Seawolves were forced to punt after Towson stopped a short pass to Dely on third down.
  • Gaskin opened the next defensive series with a three-yard tackle for loss. On the following play, Lucas Love forced the first fumble of his career and Reggie Darkah recovered at the Towson 32-yard line.
  • Stony Brook capitalized on the turnover as Boyd connected with Sweitzer for a 26-yard touchdown. Sweitzer flipped into the end zone to extend the lead to 14-0.
  • Bueno added a third-down sack on Towson's next possession to force another punt.
  • Starting at their own 13-yard line, the Seawolves moved into Towson territory on a 46-yard connection from Boyd to Dely. Mannino finished the drive with a 40-yard field goal to make it 17-0 with 9:44 left in the half.
  • The Stony Brook defense forced its fourth punt of the half to get the ball back at its own 16-yard line.
  • Boyd connected with Linkins for 13 yards on the next drive, but a penalty pushed the Seawolves back and they were forced to punt.
  • Towson drove 54 yards in six plays before scoring on a fourth-and-six touchdown pass to Enterline with 1:44 remaining in the half, cutting the lead to 17-7.
  • Stony Brook punted with 40 seconds left before the break, and the defense held Towson scoreless for the remainder of the half.

  • Crawford answered on the ensuing kickoff with a 90-yard return for a touchdown to put Stony Brook back in front, 24-14.
  • Towson responded with a six-play, 75-yard drive capped by a two-yard rushing touchdown to cut the lead to 24-21 with 4:42 left in the third quarter.
  • After a Stony Brook three-and-out, Byndon recorded a sack to help the defense force a three-and-out of its own and give the Seawolves possession at their own 29-yard line.
  • Boyd scrambled for a first down on third-and-eight to move Stony Brook to its own 40-yard line to open the fourth quarter. On the next play, Boyd connected with Linkins for 21 yards to reach the Towson 38-yard line. Boyd finished the 15-play, 6:57 drive with a 13-yard rushing touchdown on third-and-eight to extend the lead to 31-21.
  • Ryan Barrett recovered the ball for Stony Brook on the ensuing kickoff to give the Seawolves possession.
