Stony Brook Falls at Hofstra, Earns No. 3 Seed in 2026 CAA Women's Soccer Championship

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Stony Brook women's soccer fell on the road at Hofstra, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale. With the result, Stony Brook cemented itself as the No. 3 seed in the 2026 CAA Women's Soccer Championship and will head back to Hempstead to face No. 2 Hofstra on Thursday, November 5 in the quarterfinal round.

Stony Brook tried four shots in the early going, forcing Hofstra's Lily Bailey to make the first save of the contest in the 22nd minute of action. Minutes later, Jona Hennings made back-to-back stops on consecutive Pride chances to keep things scoreless.

Hofstra broke the ice in the 29th minute on a strike from Ciara Whyte. The Pride tacked on another first-half goal in the closing moments of the first half, netting a second goal in the 44th minute to push its advantage to 2-0 entering the intermission.

The Seawolves put forth five shots in the first 10 minutes of second-half action, trying desperately to cut into the two-goal deficit. Hofstra settled and then had three successive chances of its own on the other end of the pitch, all of which were blocked before making its way towards the net.

Stony Brook's best chance at getting on the board came in the 70th minute when it earned a penalty kick opportunity, but Emily Lemke's shot from the dot was stopped, keeping the Seawolves scoreless. Six minutes later, Hofstra scored for the third time to effectively put the contest to bed.

With the result, Stony Brook locked itself into the third seed in the 2026 CAA Women's Soccer Championship. As the Seawolves did last season, they will face Hofstra in the CAA North Division Quarterfinal. This time, it will be at Captain's Field in Hempstead. The contest is set to take place at 2:30 pm on Thursday, November 5, streaming live on FloCollege and the FloSports Channel on Amazon Prime. The winner will travel to face top-seeded Towson in the CAA North Division Semifinal, with a berth to the CAA Championship game on the line, on Sunday, November 8 at 1 pm.
