STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook men's lacrosse was defeated 19-7 by visiting Virginia on Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Virginia opened the scoring on Saturday, taking the opening faceoff and scoring just 11 seconds later. At the 11:56 mark of the first, the Cavaliers pushed their advantage to 2-0, converting on a man-up opportunity. Virginia would then rattle off the next five goals, taking a 7-0 lead with 5:15 remaining in the first. Stony Brook would score the final goal of the opening quarter as Collin Williamson put the Seawolves on the board.
Following the Stony Brook, Virginia answered back with three straight goals to make it 10-1 with 4:06 left to go in the first half. The Seawolves scored two out of the next three goals, including the final goal of the second quarter, as Brendan Marino scored right before the buzzer.
Coming out of the half, Virginia opened the third quarter with two quick goals. Stony Brook then scored the next three goals, and the Cavaliers responded with a goal in the final seconds of the third quarter to bring the score to 14-6 heading into the fourth.
Stony Brook scored one goal in the final quarter, while Virginia added five to close things out with a 19-7 scoreline in its favor.
