NORFOLK, Va. - The Seawolves tied it late against Quinnipiac but were unable to pull ahead as they went on to fall 7-2 on day two of the Battle at the Bay.
How It Happened
- The Bobcats took an early 2-0 lead in the first after belting back-to-back two-out singles. Stony Brook did get a run back in the bottom of the inning as Malorie Hill ripped an RBI double of her own to score Elena Gonzalez.
- Aubrey Jepson rebounded from a rough start in the first inning and proceeded to retire the next 12 consecutive batters, only allowing one to reach base on an error in the fourth.
- Following another hitless frame in the top of the fifth, the Seawolves backed up Jepson in the bottom half of the inning as Mia Vannelli grounded out to short to bring home Karri Pritchard.
- Quinnipiac blew the game wide open the very next inning, however, as they batted around the order and picked up five runs to take a 7-2 lead. Stony Brook would only get two more runners on base over the final two innings as the Bobcats held on for the win.
Stats and Notes
- Out of the leadoff position, Gonzalez has scored six runs, including three in the last two games.
- In her last four games, Rachael Brown is batting 5-for-13 as she leads the team with 12 hits.
