FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - After nearly two weeks off due to weather-related cancellations, the Seawolves returned to action on Friday with a narrow 2-1 loss CAA opener against rival Hofstra.
Due to the condition of Hoftra's field, the game was played at Farmingdale State College, with the rest of the series also set to be played there.
How It Happened
- Stony Brook got things started in the top of the first on a two-out RBI double from Ella Hayes. The Seawolves would load the bases right after, but they would get only the one run in the inning as the Pride managed to strand all three baserunners.
- Over the next three innings, the Pride would get a runner into scoring position in each one. However, Jayci Finch would successfully keep Hofstra off the board as she stranded five baserunners to escape all three innings unscathed.
- The Pride was finally able to get through to Finch in the bottom of the fourth, plating two on a go-ahead single from Alanna Morse. Finch, though, was able to hold them to just the one run as she struck out three in the inning.
- Finch bounced back with two more scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth, notching her sixth strikeout of the day and stranding another three runners in the process to keep it a one-run game heading into the top of the seventh.
- Stony Brook had a chance to keep the game going in the top of the seventh after an Emma Scheitinger beat out a one-out infield single. A two-out walk to Elena Gonzalez got the go-ahead run on base, but that would be as close as it would get as the Pride held on to take the opening game of the series.
Stats and Notes
- Finch struck out a season-high six batters today as she lowered her season ERA to 2.73.
- Hayes went 2-for-3 today and now has three multi-hit games on the season.
