Men's Basketball Falls on the Road at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's basketball team fell, 67-58, to Hofstra on Saturday evening in Nassau County. Ethan Simmon paced the offense with 14 points, while Oleg Kojenets added nine points and eight rebounds off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The two sides traded triples in the early going, with shots falling courtesy of Richard Goods and Simmon, seeing Stony Brook and Hofstra deadlocked at 8-8 through the early going.
  • The Pride grabbed an early nine-point advantage, 20-11, but trifectas from Quin Gorman and Simmon helped the Seawolves cut in the disadvantage, making it a four-point game.
  • After falling behind 31-21, Stony Brook went on a 9-0 run with 3:23 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 31-30.
  • The Seawolves continued to narrow the gap and tied the game at 32-32 heading into halftime.
  • Andrej Shoshkikj knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to open second-half action, propeling Stony Brook to a 35-32 lead.
  • Hofstra produced a few scoring spurts offensively to make it a two-possession game. The Pride continued to keep Stony Brook at distance, even extending the advantage to double figures with just over six minutes to play.
  • The Seawolves continued to fight back, narrowing the deficit to as little as five points in the final two minutes, but would not get any closer.
