STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Four players in double figures helped Stony Brook women's basketball pick up its eighth straight win at Stony Brook Arena on Friday night, defeating CAA foe Northeastern 64-55.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Northeastern opened the scoring, Stony Brook went on an 8-0 run, culminating in a three from Diaka Berete, to take an 8-2 lead with 7:00 left to play in the opening quarter. The Seawolves continued to add on to their lead throughout the quarter, as Sandra Frau Garcia beat the buzzer, giving Stony Brook a 19-11 advantage heading into the second.
The Seawolves kept their momentum in the second quarter, going on a dominant 13-0 run in the final seven minutes, capped off by a three-pointer from Nal'La Bennett, giving Stony Brook a 36-17 lead at the halftime break.
Northeastern responded with a fast start in the third, scoring the first six points of the quarter. The Huskies did not let up throughout the quarter, outscoring the Seawolves 26-11 in the third, as Stony Brook clung to a 47-43 advantage heading into the fourth.
The Seawolves opened the fourth quarter hot, opening things on a quick 7-2 run, giving them a 52-45 lead with 7:45 left to play. Later in the quarter, Stony Brook scored five straight, growing its lead to 59-47 with 5:10 to go in the contest, as the Seawolves cruised the rest of the way to a 64-55 win over the Huskies.

- Janay Brantley led the Seawolves with 13 points in the win.
- Frau Garcia added 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
- Chloe Oliver tallied 12 points, shooting 4-of-6 from the field.
- Diaka Berete rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points on the night.
- The Seawolves held the Huskies to only 38.3 percent shooting from the field.
- Stony Brook's bench outscored Northeastern's 22-16.
- The Seawolves had a 44-30 edge on the boards in the win.
