MIAMI, Fla. - In the final day of the FIU Felsberg Invitational, the Seawolves came back to tie it late vs. Lehigh, but were unable to go the distance as they fell short of victory 5-2.
How It Happened
- Making her second career start in as many days, Aubrey Jepson went toe-to-toe with Lehigh's senior ace Chloe Hess. After running into trouble in the bottom of the second and allowing a run to score, Jepson settled in and got the final two outs and stranded runners on second and third. Over the next three innings, Jepson allowed just two more hits and struck out two batters.
- Meanwhile, Stony Brook's offense stalled early on, being held hitless through the first 4.2 innings. With two outs in the fifth, though, rookie Elena Gonzalez laced a single to right to break up the no-hitter, before advancing to second on a wild pitch and finally coming around to score on a single from Malorie Hill to tie the game.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Lehigh took advantage of multiple Seawolves errors to plate another four more runs. The Seawolves had a chance to extend the game with two outs in the top of the seventh, with Karri Pritchard singling home Emily Valentine to cut the deficit down to three. Despite loading the bases, however, the one run would be all they got as the Hawks held on for the win.
Stats and Notes
- Through four appearances (two starts) to her collegiate career, Jepson has a 1.58 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 13.1 innings. Hitting for herself today, she also recorded her first career hit with a single in the seventh.
- Fellow rookie Gonzalez is also off to great start to her career, leading the team with five hits and a .417 AVG through the first five games.
