WASHINGTON, D.C - Stony Brook's women's basketball dropped its CAA Tournament semifinal matchup to Charleston 79-49 on Saturday afternoon in the nation's capital.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Charleston started fast, hitting its first three shots to take an early 7-0 lead. The Cougars then went on an 11-0 run to make it an 18-4 game with 3:53 remaining in the first quarter. A 7-4 scoring advantage for Charleston to close out the quarter made it 25-8 at the end of the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, the Cougars continued to hold a steady lead, going up 43-17 at the half. Stony Brook's offense put together a solid stretch in the third quarter, making four straight shots, but still found itself down 50-30 with 4:54 left to go in the quarter.
The Seawolves did not pull closer for the remainder of the play, falling by a final tally of 79-49 to Charleston.
STATS AND NOTES
- Caitlin Frost led the Stony Brook offensively with 13 points.
- Janay Brantley posted another double-digit scoring performance with 11 points on the day.
- Johanna Potter scored eight points and shot 4-of-4 from the field.
- The Seawolves scored 30 of their points in the paint.
