PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Seawolves had a strong day at the plate, but it was not enough to overcome Drexel as they opened the weekend series with a six-inning 14-6 loss on Friday.
How It Happened
- The Dragons quickly took the lead in the bottom of the first after a pair of home runs plated four.
- Stony Brook managed to cut the lead in half the next inning on a two-out, two-run home run to left by Naiah Ackerman.
- Elena Gonzalez, Rachael Brown, and Ashlyn Burgess brought the deficit down to one in the top of the third after ripping three straight singles.
- A two-out single in the bottom of the third regrew Drexel's lead to two, before putting up a five spot in the fifth to extend their lead to 10-3.
- The Seawolves continued to fight back in the sixth, as Karri Pritchard picked up her first career home run on a towering two-run shot to left, followed by an opposite field RBI single from Ella Hayes to make it a four-run game.
- Ultimately, Drexel was able to take the game in six after an error that would have been the third out prolonged the inning, allowing the next four batters to reach base and score four unearned runs.
Stats and Notes
- After going without a home run through her first 19 games of the season, Ackerman now has two home runs in her last three games.
- Pritchard is the sixth Seawolf this year to hit a home run. Along with Gonzalez and Malorie Hill she is the third to record her first career home run.
