PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Crimson Rice pitched her best game of the season so far after firing seven innings of two-run ball to help lead the Seawolves to a 7-2 victory over Drexel to even up the series.
How It Happened
- Rachael Brown got things started in the first when she launched her fifth home run of the season and quickly made it 2-0.
- After an error allowed the Dragons to plate an unearned run in the bottom of the first, Rice got out of the inning and proceeded to retire the next 12 batters in a row into the bottom of the fifth.
- Meanwhile, the Seawolves tacked on another run in the third, courtesy of an RBI single from Naiah Ackerman. Then, in the fourth, Stony Brook would get its first three batters on safely, paving the way a pair of RBI singles from Ashlyn Burgess and Karri Pritchard to extend the lead to 6-1.
- An RBI groundout off the bat of Elena Gonzalez made it a seven-run game in the top of the fifth, but Drexel would get the run back in the bottom of the inning on a two-out rally.
- Rice rebounded and fired another 1-2-3 inning in the sixth, before finishing things off in the seventh by retiring the side in order for the fifth time.
Stats and Notes
- This marks Rice's first complete game of the season and her first win.
- Brown now has a nine-game hitting streak and has driven in a run in seven of those games.
- Burgess also extends both her hitting streak and RBI streak to six games each.
- With her two-run single in the fourth, Pritchard now has three straight games with two RBIs.
