PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Seawolves and the Dragons traded blows through the early innings of Sunday's series finale, but in the end it was Drexel who took control late and handed Stony Brook an 8-4 loss.
How It HappenedÂ
- Following a scoreless first, Drexel was first on the board in the bottom of the second off a solo home run from Macie Bergmann.Â
- The Dragons' lead did not last long, though, as back-to-back errors in the top of the third on a ground ball from Elena Gonzalez and pop fly from Rachael Brown allowed two runs to score.
- Two innings later, the lead would again shift back to the Dragons as they plated three in the bottom of the fourth, before adding another four in the bottom of the fifth to go up 8-2.
- Stony Brook would cut the deficit down to four in the top of the sixth when Mia Vannelli came in to pinch hit and sent the third pitch she saw into the gap in left center for a two-run double.
- Despite getting the leadoff batter on in the top of the seventh, the Seawolves did not have another comeback in them as the next three hitters were set down in order.
Stats and Notes
- Brown's hitting streak comes to an end at nine games. During that run she went 15-for-29 with 10 RBIs.
- Ashlyn Burgess grew her hitting streak to seven games with her single in the sixth.
