STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Following Tuesday's postponement, Stony Brook got a lights-out performance from Crimson Rice on Wednesday as she blanked Wagner over seven innings to secure the 2-0 victory.
How It Happened
- After getting her day started with a 1-2-3 inning, Rice worked around a leadoff baserunner in each of the next two innings to keep the Seahawks off the board,
- Meanwhile, the Seawolves finally broke through for the first run of the day in the bottom of the third after leaving runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings. Ella Hayes led things off with an infield single and later stole second before coming around to score from third on a grounder from Ashlyn Burgess.
- With the lead in tow, Rice again worked around a single in a scoreless fourth, followed by back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the fifth and sixth.
- Burgess got the Seawolves a much-needed insurance run in the top of the seventh as she grounded one sharply to third to bring home Mia Vannelli.
- With one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Seahawks got a single and a walk to put the winning run at the plate. Fortunately for the Seawolves, Rice got the next batter to popup to third, before finishing off the shutout with one final groundout.
