Stony Brook’s Season Comes to an End in CAA Tournament

WASHINGTON D.C. - In an offensive battle in the nation's capital, the No. 8 Stony Brook Seawolves could not come back against the No. 9 Campbell Fighting Camels as they fell 96-89 in the second round of the CAA tournament.

How It Happened

  • The Seawolves burst out of the gate with a 5-0 lead in the first minute, courtesy of a layup from Andrej Shoshkikj and a triple from Rob Brown III. Over the next five minutes it was a nearly uninterrupted back-and-forth as both teams traded a flurry of buckets with just one stoppage. Three-pointers from Goods and Shoshkikj would cap off the opening rush and give Stony Brook a 17-15 advantage at the first media break.
  • Out of the timeout, both teams combined for 10 free throws and zero field goals for the next couple minutes, until Shoshkikj let one fly from deep to extend the lead to 26-19 with just under 12 minutes to play.
  • An 11-0 Campbell run would give them back the lead at 30-26 with eight and a half remaining. Brown finally ended the run with a jumper at 8:08, before adding another layup 90 seconds later to keep it a four-point game.
  • Foul trouble for the Seawolves continued through the final minutes of the half, as they soon found themselves trailing 41-33 with a little over three minutes to go. With two minutes on the clock, Erik Pratt finished off the and-one to cut the deficit down to 43-38. The Camels, though, immediately responded with a three grow their lead back to eight points.
  • Only a minute into the second half the Seawolves soon found themselves trailing 51-40. After a jumper from Shoshkikj got the deficit back into single digits, Quin Gorman cut it down to six with his first triple of the day at 17:49. Three minutes later, though, Campbell again got its lead back to 10.
  • Stony Brook was held to just nine points over the next five minutes as the deficit grew to 69-56. Shohskikj drained his fourth three of the afternoon at 10:02 to put him at 20 points on the day.
  • With six minutes left, Brown picked up his third bucket from deep, giving him eight points in four minutes and keeping Campbell's lead at 10. A minute later, Shoshkikj would get it down to single digits with two from the line, before making it a two-score game with his fifth three-pointer. Two more free throws from Shoshkikj at 4:00 further shrunk the lead to 79-75.
  • Shoshkikj, doing everything he could to keep Stony Brook in the game, knocked down his sixth triple with just over three minutes left to make it a three-point hole at 81-78. Despite keeping it close down the stretch, however, the Seawolves were unable to get any closer than that as Campbell was able to match their scoring in the final minutes to just hold on for the 96-89 win.

Stats and Notes

  • Pratt, Shoshkikj, and Brown combined for 38 of the team's 40 points in the first half as all three were already in double figures. By the end of the game, the trio had accounted for 80 of the team's 89 points.
