STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Seawolves dropped both games of their doubleheader against Hofstra on Saturday as they fell 6-1 in game one and 8-3 in game two.
How It Happened (Game 1)
- While the Pride had quickly built a 3-0 lead in the opening game, the Seawolves offense struggled early, going hitless through the first 2.2 innings until an infield single from Ella Hayes.
- Following a scoreless fourth, Hofstra grew its lead to 6-0 by the end of the sixth.
- Naiah Ackerman finally broke the shutout in the bottom of the seventh after knocking a lead-off home run to left center to get Stony Brook on the board. The Seawolves would get runners on first and second after a double from June McGrath and a walk by Malorie Hill, but ultimately they were unable to bring them home and extend the game.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- Stony Brook again found itself trailing early in game two as Hofstra took a 4-0 lead after the top of the first. Rachael Brown managed to cut that lead in half in the bottom half of the inning as she launched her eighth home run of the year with a two-run blast to dead center.
- The next inning, Hill was hit by the first pitch she saw to lead off the fourth. After reaching second on a sac bunt from Mia Vannelli, she would come around to score on an opposite-field double from Marissa Thalassinos to cut the lead down 4-3.
- Meanwhile, Aubrey Jepson out of the bullpen in the fourth in what was her first appearance since March 17 vs. Sacred Heart. The freshman did not miss a beat as she proceeded to retire the first 10 batters she faced, three via strikeouts, to keep it a one-run game into the seventh.Â
- Hofstra soon broke through in the top of the seventh, however, plating four runs to grow their lead to 8-3. The Seawolves did manage to load the bases, but one last double play cut the comeback short.
Stats and Notes
- Brown's two hits in game two brought her to exactly 100 career hits. She now has 15 multi-hit games this season and 26 in her career.
- Hayes extended her hitting streak to 10 games after game one today, but saw the streak come to an end in game two.
