ELON, N.C. - The Seawolves wrapped up their final road CAA series of the season on Sunday with a 12-4 loss at Elon.
How It Happened
- Stony Brook came out strong in the top of the first as Ella Hayes led off the inning with a walk and later came around to score on an RBI double from Naiah Ackerman that just barely stayed fair on the right field line. Rachael Brown immediately followed up with a single through the left side to make it 2-0.
- The lead did not last long, however, as Elon put up a seven spot in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
- A dropped fly ball off the bat of Ackerman did allow an unearned run to score in the third to cut the lead down to four, but the Phoenix quickly responded with another four runs in the bottom half of the frame to go up 11-3.
- Both teams would tack on another run, with Ackerman once again driving in Hayes with a single in the top of the fifth. This was not enough, though, to fully get the Seawolves back into the game as the run rule took effect after the top of the fifth.
Stats and Notes
- Ackerman's double was the 24th of her career, while her career RBI total is up to 92. Today also marked her 19th ever multi-RBI game.
- Hayes scored a season-high three runs today, bringing her to 26 on the season.
