STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Seawolves chances of making the CAA Championship took a hit on Thursday as they opened the final series of the regular season with a 6-3 loss to Drexel.
How It Happened
- The day started off as a sharp pitcher's duel between Aubrey Jepson and Courtney Kols as neither starter allowed a hit through the first three innings. Jepson was particularly dominant early, racking up eight strikeouts through the first three frames.
- The Dragons managed to strike first, though, scoring a pair of two-out runs in the next two innings to go up 2-0. Drexel's two-out rallies would continue into the sixth as a grand slam blew the game wide open and put them up 6-0.
- Stony Brook got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth as Marissa Thalassinos led off the inning with a double and later came around to score on a single from Josie Alfano. Mia Vannelli followed up with an RBI single of her own down the left field line.
- Thalassinos would double again in the bottom of the seventh to cut Drexel's lead in half, but that would be all the Seawolves would get as the Dragons held on for the win.
Stats and Notes
- Jepson set a new career high with nine strikeouts today.
- This marked Thalassinos' 12th multi-hit game of the season and the first of her career with multiple extra-base hits.
