POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Stony Brook men's soccer team battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Marist Thursday night at Tenney Stadium in the 2026 season opener.
The Red Foxes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 28 minutes, with Mani Diop finding the back of the net in the eighth minute before Miles Douglas doubled the advantage in the 28th minute.
Stony Brook responded with a pair of goals before halftime to level the match. Senior defender
Lars Fahre put the Seawolves on the board in the 39th minute, heading home an assist from
Nelson Reynoso to cut the deficit to one.
Just over five minutes later,
Elliot Burgueno scored his first-career goal to bring Stony Brook even at 2-2 heading into halftime.
Neither team could break through in the second half as both defenses held firm. Stony Brook goalkeeper
Heidar Hermannsson made two saves on the night, including a stop early in the second half to keep the match tied.
Finlay Oliver led the Seawolves with two shots on goal, while
Alex Fleury recorded a team-high three shots. Fahre and Burgueno each registered a goal, with Reynoso adding an assist.
Stony Brook finished the night with 10 shots, including seven on goal, while Marist also recorded 10 shots. The Seawolves earned four corner kicks compared to 11 for the Red Foxes.
The Seawolves return to action Monday August 24 when they travel to Sacred Heart. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
