FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Stony Brook controlled the majority of play Monday night at Sacred Heart, but the Seawolves had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Park Ave Field. Stony Brook moves to 0-0-2 on the season following its second consecutive draw to open the 2026 campaign.
Sacred Heart struck first just 2:15 into the contest, taking an early 1-0 advantage. The Seawolves responded by applying pressure throughout the opening half before finding the equalizer just before halftime. Senior Alex Fleury scored in the 45th minute to send the teams into the break tied at 1-1.
Stony Brook dominated the statistical battle throughout the night, outshooting Sacred Heart 18-10 and holding an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Seawolves also put five shots on target compared to three for the Pioneers.
The Seawolves took control after halftime, outshooting Sacred Heart 12-6 while earning seven of the eight corner kicks in the second half. Ryan Farr led Stony Brook with five shots, including two on target, while Finlay Oliver added three shots and two shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Heidar Hermannsson played all 90 minutes and made two saves, including a key stop in the 73rd minute on a shot from Sacred Heart's Diaz.
Stony Brook continued to generate opportunities late, but Sacred Heart goalkeeper Suarez made three second-half saves to keep the Seawolves from finding a game-winner.
The Seawolves are back in action August 29 for their home opener against Hofstra in LaValle Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
