STONY BROOK, N.Y. - After taking down No. 8/13 Rhode Island 56-24 in their CAA opener, the Stony Brook football team has been named the FCS National Team of the Week by Stats Perform, the organization announced Monday morning.

The victory marks the first ranked win for the Seawolves since 2024 when they defeated No. 15 William & Mary. It is also their first victory over a top-10 opponent since taking down No. 5 Villanova in 2019. The win was Stony Brook's highest-ranked victory at LaValle Stadium since defeating No. 14/15 Delaware in 2021.

CJ Hester and Jeremiah Coney accounted for all seven of Stony Brook's touchdowns and combined for 168 yards on the ground. Hester finished with 78 yards on 18 carries with four touchdowns while Coney had 90 yards on 20 carries with three touchdowns. Quinn Boyd was also impactful on the ground with a career-high 155 yards on 14 carries. The quarterback also completed 17-of-24 passes for 198 yards and a touchdown.

The defense had several impactful performances in the victory as Lance Byndon, Miles McGoy and Jojo Garcia each registered a team-best eight tackles. Byndon added 3.0 tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks, while Sebastian Regis and Maurice Seals each recorded a sack. Kareem Hector also recorded his first career interception.

The Seawolves are back in action next weekend when they head to the Bronx to battle Fordham for the 10th time in program history. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
