First-year head softball coach Megan Bryant has signed three recruits in the early signing period for the 2002 season--Heather Bianchini, Kristen Brust and Colleen McCarthy.
Bianchini, a 5-9 second baseman from Ivyland, Pa., has received All-Area First Team and All-League First Team honors at Council Rock High School. She has a batting average of .347 and a fielding percentage of .985. In addition to playing for Council Rock, Bianchini also plays for the Philadelphia Freedom in the Amateur Softball Association (ASA).
Brust is a native of Farmingville, N.Y. A 5-8 senior at Sachem High School, she plays first base for the Flaming Arrows, compiling a batting average of .411 and a .535 on-base percentage. She has also collected 14 RBIs in 21 games. Brust, who also plays for the Long Island Chargers in the ASA, has been named All-County, All-Conference, All-League, All-Division and Suffolk County Rookie of the Year.
McCarthy, a native of Sunrise, Fla., is a 5-9 shortstop for South Plantation High School and also plays for the Plantation Pressure in the ASA. She has a batting average of .333 and a fielding percentage of .995. McCarthy was also named to the All-County Third Team.
Stony Brook enters its second season at the Division I level this spring. The Seawolves finished 4-31 last year.
