Nov. 16, 2001

Stony Brook, N.Y. - St. Francis (Pa.) at Stony Brook game notes

Media: Radio: WUSB 90.1 FM, Internet: Seawolves Radio Network at www.goseawolves.org

The End Of An Era: The Seawolves wrap up the 2001 season by playing their final game at Seawolves Field - the field that has been their home since the inception of the program back in 1984. Stony Brook will move into a new 8,000-seat multimillion dollar stadium next fall.

Seawolves Leader: Stony Brook's Sam Kornhauser is in his 18th season as head coach. The only coach in the history of the program has an 81-92-2 record during that span and has led SB from the Division III level to the Division I-AA level.

The Series: Stony Brook holds a 2-0 series edge. The Seawolves defeated St. Francis last year, 60-7, at the Pine Bowl in Loretto, Pa.

St. Francis Head Coach: Dave Jaumotte is in his third season with the Red Flash.

Bard Returns: Stony Brook's offense got a boost last week with the return of quarterback Scott Bard to the starting lineup. The junior threw for 202 yards and a touchdown to help SB snap a four-game losing streak. Despite missing two games, Bard still ranks among the league leaders in passing average per game -- he ranks second at a 234.8 per game clip. He also places first in total offense, totaling 272.3 yards per contest.

Season Finales: Stony Brook is 1-1 in season finales since moving to the Division I-AA level and 10-7 overall since 1984.

Spider Web: Ken Lockhart piled up 109 yards on 21 carries to go over the 100-yard mark for the second straight week last Saturday. Lockhart has been a workhorse for the Seawolves and now has three 100-yard games this season. He has pushed his yardage total to 608 this season, averaging an impressive 5.1 yards per carry. His 5.1 average ranks second in the league behind only Sam Dorsett of Robert Morris. His 25-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave him a team-leading six TD's for the year.

Aden Closes In: LB Aden Smith will look to make Seawolves defensive history this week. He has led the team in tackles in all eight games this season and 10 in a row dating back to the final two games of last year. He enters today's game with 101 tackles on the season and stands only nine takedowns away from setting a new single season mark. Former Stony Brook standout John Harris currently holds the mark with 109 tackles which he set in 1997. Smith is also the NEC's leading tackler at 12.6 per game. To go along with his 101 tackles, Smith has one sack and three fumble recoveries. He is one fumble recovery away from tying the single season mark of four held by Phil Pape and John Kostkowicz.

O-B-1: Freshman Chimizie Okobi will finish out an outstanding first season with the Seawolves today. The team leader in sacks with 6.5, he currently ranks third in the NEC in total sacks, fourth in sacks per game (.81). He ranks fourth on the team in total tackles with 48.

Back To Back: In last year's matchup between St. Francis (Pa.) and Stony Brook, the unusual happened. Stony Brook scored the fastest two touchdowns in its history, a pair of scores that came :13 apart. How did that happen? Well, LB John Phelan intercepted a pass and returned it 29 yards for a TD. On the Red Flash's next snap, Eric Hatketwitz picked off a pass and took it back 34 yards for a score.

The McGovernor: Wideout Chris McGovern is enjoying his best season in a Seawolf uniform this season. He leads the team in receptions (40) and receiving yards (586). It will mark the second straight season that he will lead the team in catches - he led the team last year with 22.

A Man In The Zone: Wideout Londre Blocker has five touchdown receptions so far this season. His five touchdowns currently ranks as the third-best single-season performance in school history - tying him with Glenn Saenz who caught five TD passes in 1996. With each touchdown Blocker closes in on the top two spots which are also held by Saenz - nine in 1994 and 13 in 1995. Blocker is second on the team in scoring with 30 points.

Versus the NEC: Stony Brook has posted a 7-15 record against NEC schools since joining the conference two years ago. The Seawolves went 4-3 in their first season but fell to 1-7 in 2000.
