Freshman guard Theresa LoParrino scored 31 points and Stony Brook held off a late Binghamton rally to snap the Bearcats' 11-game winning streak, 64-57, at the USB Sports Complex Wednesday night. The win was the fifth in six games for Stony Brook, who ended Binghamton's five-game winning streak in the series.
Stony Brook led from start to finish and built an 18-point advantage on Jill George's lay-up with 13:18 to go at 46-28. A 10-0 Binghamton run ensued over the next 5:27 as Leah Truncale had a pair of lay-ups and Nicole Dypolt completed a three-point play and Binghamton brought the game to within 46-38 with 8:01 to go.
LoParrino buried back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead back to 52-38 with 7:23 to go.
Bess Greenberg's free throw on the Bearcats next possession began a 17-5 run. Leah Truncale had eight of her 13 points during that stretch and her jumper brought the Bearcats to within 57-55 with :54 left. LoParrino buried a pair of free throws and Jessica Burch followed that up with a steal and a lay-up to preserve the victory.
The Seawolves got out of the gates quickly, using a 10-0 run to turn a six-point lead into a 22-6 advantage. Maggie Triggs started the run and LoParrino ended it with a jumper. LoParrino's three-pointer gave the Pack a 27-9 lead - its largest of the first half.
Binghamton committed 15 turnovers in the first half and the Seawolves capitalized on them - scoring 15 points. The Bearcats shot just 27% and trailed, 36-21, at halftime. LoParrino - who scored 34 points in a game earlier this season - had 18 in the first stanza.
Stony Brook improved to 12-1 inside the USB Sports Complex this season.
Danielle DeGiorgio collected a game- and career- high 13 rebounds. Jessica Burch collected nine points, eight assists and seven steals. Jill George was the only other Seawolves player in double figures, scoring 14 points and chipping in with eight rebounds.
Binghamton was led by Greenberg's 20 points - including five three-pointers. Sarah Cartmill had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Leah Truncale had 13 points and nine boards.
Stony Brook hosts Albany on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in its home season finale.
