No. 17 Bucknell Upends Stony Brook Lax, 14-8

March 13, 2001

Kings Point, N.Y. - Deja Vu. For the second straight year, the Stony Brook-Bucknell men's lacrosse game had to be played at a neutral site due to poor field conditions at Stony Brook. Different year, same result as No. 17 Bucknell earned a 14-8 win over Stony Brook Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

Kelly Hogue and Dennis Geraghty each scored four goals to propel a Bison attack that outshot SB 50-28 on the day. The win improves Bucknell's record to 3-1 while the Seawolves fall to 0-3.

Things looked good for Stony Brook in the early going as it wasted little time in taking an early lead. Kevin Pall scored the first of his three goals only 32 seconds into the game to put SB up 1-0. Bucknell then responded with three goals in a span of 1:13 midway through the quarter from Rob Lane, Mark Juelis and John Terracciano to take a 3-1 lead en route to a 5-2 advantage after one quarter.

Bucknell took control in the second quarter as Hogue scored three times and Geraghty added a pair to build the Bison lead to 10-5 at the break. Geraghty and Lane scored early in the third quarter and the Bison cruised to the 14-8 win.

Tris Gillen added a pair of goals and Matt Toner finished with two goals and two assists for Stony Brook. Steve Armsworthy came on in relief of Tom Bushy in goal and was outstanding, making 14 saves in 30 minutes of action.

The Seawolves will be back in action again when they play host to Fairfield this Sunday. Face-off is 1:00 p.m.
