Women's Basketball Falls To Vermont, 71-59

Burlington, Vt. - Morgan Hall's 21 points led Vermont to a 71-59 victory over Stony Brook in Burlington, Vt., Thursday night. The loss marked the second straight in America East play for the Seawolves and snapped Vermont's two-game losing streak.

The first half was tightly contested throughout, but a 9-0 run over the final four minutes gave the Catamounts (9-7, 4-2 America East) a 33-26 lead heading into the lockerroom. Sherry Jordan scored 12 first-half points to keep the Seawolves close.

After a Vermont jumper to open the second half stretched the lead to nine, the Seawolves began to chip away at the lead. Stony Brook got as close as six points, but UVM's Aaron Yantzi scored a layup to ignite a 13-3 run that gave Vermont its biggest lead of the night at 64-48 with 5:06 remaining. The Catamounts kept the Seawolves at bay to earn the 71-59 victory.

Vermont blistered the Seawolves with 60 percent shooting in the second half and 52.3 percent for the game. Meanwhile, Stony Brook connected on just 36.5 percent of its shots.

Jordan finished with a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds, while Theresa LoParrino added 18 points and four assists.

Stony Brook returns to action on Saturday, when the Seawolves play host to Hartford at 2 p.m.
