Men's Basketball Falls to St. John's, 68-57

NEW YORK (AP) - Marcus Hatten came off the bench to score 19 points after he was kept out of the starting lineup for reporting late for a pregame meeting as St. John's struggled to a 68-57 season-opening victory over Stony Brook on Tuesday night.

Anthony Glover added 12 points, Eric King 11 and freshman Elijah Ingram 10 for the Red Storm, who led 31-29 at halftime.

JonPaul Kobryn scored 17 points for the Seawolves (1-1), and Bobby Santiago had 13.

Mike Konopka scored seven of his eight points as the Seawolves jumped out to a 7-2 lead at 16:34. St. John's then went on an 11-4 run, behind King's seven points, to take its first lead, 13-11 at 12:44.

A tightly contested first half ended when Hatten hit a jumper with 4 seconds left to give the Red Storm a 31-29 lead.

St. John's opened the second half with eight unanswered points, including six by Glover, to take a 39-29 advantage at 17:18. Andre Stanley's jumper at 6:02 gave the Red Storm their biggest lead at 57-43.

The Seawolves went on a 10-2 run, led by Jairus McCollum's four points, to get as close as 59-53 with 2:17 remaining. But Ingram hit a 3 and Hatten dunked to make it 64-53 with 1:30 left.
