Men's Basketball Inks Two For 2003-04

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Mike Popoko (Baltimore, Md./The McDonogh School) and Gordon Hurley (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick HS) have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball for Stony Brook next season, head coach Nick Macarchuk announced.

Hurley is a 6-8, 240-pound forward/center that starred for East Brunswick High School in New Jersey. The forward/center averaged 14.6 points and 8.2 rebounds last season , earning team MVP honors and was a second team Middlesex County pick by the Newark Star-Ledger. He was a Top 40 All Star at the Eastern Invitational Camp in the summer of 2002 and was rated among the top 30 seniors in the state of New Jersey by the end of the summer.

Popoko, a 6-5, 190-pound forward, averaged 16 points and eight rebounds for The McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland last season. He also played for the Baltimore Select AAU program which is one of the best AAU teams in the country.
