Men's Basketball Defeats Maine, 57-53

ORONO, Maine (AP) - Dawud Munir scored five points in the last 1:30 to lead Stony Brook to a 57-53 victory over the University of Maine in America East men's action Sunday.

Down 52-44, the Black Bears used a 9-0 run to take a one-point lead. After a timeout, Munir used a screen at the top of the circle and drilled a 3-point shot to give the Seawolves a 55-53 margin.

Munir iced the game by hitting on a jumper in traffic with 13 seconds remaining, giving Stony Brook its fourth victory against 19 defeats on the season. The Seawolves improve to 3-9 in America East.

Stony Brook was led by JonPaul Kobryn, who had 18 points and six rebounds. Joakim Erikkson added 12 points and Munir chipped in 11.

The Black Bears used the 3-pointer to take a 30-28 lead into the intermission. Maine was 6 of 12 from beyond the arc and held the Seawolves scoreless from the same area. Derrick Jackson led the first half charge with nine points on three 3-pointers.

Jackson finished with 13 points for the Black Bears (9-14, 6-6). Teammate Rickey White added 11 points.
