Final Stats

Vestal, N.Y. - Binghamton seniors Sarah Cartmill and Leah Truncale combined for 35 points in their final home game as the Bearcats (19-8, 10-6 America East) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 63-50 victory over Stony Brook (14-12, 7-8 AE) Thursday night in Vestal, N.Y. The win secured a share of second place in the America East Conference for the Bearcats, who are playing in their first Division I season.

Cartmill tallied 19 points with nine rebounds, and Truncale, back from a torn ACL that cost her more than six weeks and 12 games, contributed 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Cartmill tallied 11 of her points in the second half, when BU gradually pulled away from a 28-26 halftime edge.

Leading 39-37 with 11:30 left, the Bearcats embarked on a 20-5 run that spanned eight minutes. Cartmill had seven points during that stretch, and Truncale and sophomore point guard Kate Townley added four apiece.

Binghamton held the Seawolves to just nine second-half field goals, seven of which were scored by sophomore Sherry Jordan. The Bearcats converted 18-of-25 free throws, including 16-of-19 in the second half, while the Seawolves were just 9-of-11 for the game.

The Bearcats stretched their two-point halftime advantage to seven early in the second half at 45-38, but Jordan helped keep the Seawolves in it, scoring Stony Brook's first 11 points of the second half.

But the Bearcats' 20-5 run gave them their largest lead of the night at 17 at 59-42 with just under four minutes remaining.

Jordan scored a game-high 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds, while Erika Shipley chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds. Jill George contributed five points and eight rebounds while tying a career-high with five blocks.

The Seawolves close out the regular season on Saturday when Stony Brook plays host to Vermont on Senior Day. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
