Men's Lacrosse Routs Lafayette, 14-4

March 20, 2002

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Kevin Pall scored four times and Steve Conlon notched a goal and three assists to lead Stony Brook to a 14-4 non-conference win over Lafayette on a miserable rainy afternoon at Seawolves Field. The win improves the Seawolves to 3-2 overall while Lafayette drops to 0-4.

The Seawolves took control early, outscoring the Leopards 6-1 in the opening quarter as six different Seawolves found the net. Tris Gillen got SB rolling at the 14:12 mark followed by goals from Conlon, George LaFlare, Mike Kirschner, Matt Campolettano and Denis Scannell before Ted Blackburn got the Leopards on the board with 30 seconds left in the quarter.

Stony Brook put the game away in the second quarter, outscoring Lafayette 5-1 to take a commanding 11-2 halftime lead. Pall then made history early in the third quarter with his third tally of the game on an assist from Conlon. The goal was the 100th of Pall's career, making him only the second player in the program's history to score 100 or more career goals. Courtney Wilson scored 112 goals for Stony Brook from 1994-97.

LaFlare finished with two goals and an assist and Sean Farrell chipped in with three assists. Long-stick middie Eric Hatkewitz scored for the third straight game.

Blackburn paced the Leopards with two goals while Tim Derosier and Pat Lennon also found the net for Lafayette.

The Seawolves dominated in every category, winning 20 of 22 face-offs and scooping up 77 groundballs on the muddy Seawolves Field. Face-off specialist Dennis Nafte was a perfect 11 for 11 on the day. Steve Armsworthy made his second straight start in goal for Stony Brook and made six saves in the first half to earn his second win of the year. Phil Reed finished out the game, making five stops in the second half.

Stony Brook is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Annapolis to face nationally-ranked Navy. Face-off is 12:00 p.m.
