Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Kevin Pall became Stony Brook's all-time leading scorer as he scored three times to power Stony Brook to a 12-8 win over Vermont in America East action on Saturday. The win improved Stony Brook to 5-3 on the year, 3-1 in conference play while Vermont slipped to 3-5, 0-1.
Vermont jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before Steve Conlon ignited a five-goal outburst that saw the Seawolves take a 5-1 advantage late in the first quarter. Vermont responded by scoring four of the next five goals, two coming off the stick of Thomas Hajek, to trim the Stony Brook lead to 6-5. The Seawolves answered UVM's run with two tallies from George LaFlare sandwiched around a goal from Kyle Pearl to take a 9-5 lead into the break. Pearl's goal was his third of the season as he became the first SB defenseman to score at least three goals in a season since Ed Havel recorded three goals for the then Patriots in 1994.
The spotlight then turned to Pall who made Stony Brook lacrosse history early in the second half. His record-breaking goal came just 1:16 into the half as he ran by his defender to the right of the UVM goal and bounced a shot past Michael Gabel for his Division I leading 29th goal of the year, the 113th of his career. Pall's 113 goals eclipsed the old mark of 112 that was set by Courtney Wilson from 1994-97.
Mark Prior and Phil McKnight added goals for the Catamounts later in the third quarter but Conlon and Denis Scannell scored in the fourth for SB to seal the win.
Hajek finished with a team-high three goals for Vermont while Michael Gabel was outstanding between the pipes, turning aside 19 Stony Brook shots.
Conlon notched his first career hat trick and Steve Armsworthy made nine saves for Stony Brook to earn his fourth win of the year. The Seawolves are back in action on Wednesday when they play host to Marist. Face-off is 3:00 p.m.
