Men's Basketball Signs Two For 2002-03

May 22, 2002

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Bobby Santiago (Bronx, N.Y./All Hallow's HS) and Hendrik Feist (Acherm, Germany/Urspring HS) have signed National Letters of Intent to don the scarlet and grey for Stony Brook next season, head coach Nick Macarchuk announced.

Santiago averaged 8.9 points for All Hallow's High School that lost to Rice in the CHSAA Class A City Championship. The 6-2, 175-pound combination guard played with three players who will be heading to Iona next fall. Santiago lead All Hallow's as a junior with 15 points per game.

"Bobby comes from one of the best high school programs in New York City," Macarchuk said. "Coach John Carey is one of the most respected people in his profession and has taught him well. We plan to use Bobby at both guard positions and really like his ability to make shots from the outside."

Feist becomes the first native of Germany to play for Stony Brook. The 6-4, 190-pound shooting guard/forward has starred for Urspring High School in Ulm, Germany earning recognition as one of the Top 24 players in Germany under the age of 20 for the past two years. Ulm is located in southern Germany about an hour in between the cities of Munich and Stuttgart. "I know I will love playing basketball in the United States," Feist said. "It is a dream come true." Feist is a member of the U-18 German National Team and his high school was ranked as the second best team in Germany. In 1996 he played for the state champion Baden-Wuerttemberg squad.

"Hendrik will play some second guard and small forward for us," Macarchuk explained. "He is very athletic and will provide some additional scoring for us."

Cori Spencer (Fordham), Tyrone Stallings (Fordham) and John Bucaro (Holy Cross) transferred to Stony Brook last December and will be eligible to play following the conclusion of the first semester.
