Moon Township, Pa. - The Stony Brook Seawolf volleyball team slipped to 1-1 on the year with a 3-0 (25-30, 28-30, 27-30) loss to Robert Morris (2-0) Friday night. The Colonials are the host school of the 2002 RMU King's Classic.
The Seawolves fought hard in every game but costly hitting errors and the Robert Morris attack proved to be too much for the Pack to overcome. Junior Rachel Goldsmith (Aurora, Ill.) and senior Latoya Byerly (Beaumont, Texas) again led the Seawolf attack with 32 kills and 39 kills respectively. Sophomore Julie Zub (St. Louis, Mo.) proved she was in midseason form by producing a total of 36 assists.
What proved to be the undoing for The Pack were scattered hitting errors that disrupted rallies and defensive lapses from time-to-time. The Stony Brook attack finished the match with a total of 28 attack errors.
The Seawolves are still well within the thick of things in the tournament entering the double-header scheduled for tomorrow. Stony Brook opens the day with Niagara (0-2) at 1 p.m. and then follows up with Davidson (2-0) at 3 p.m.
