New Britain, Conn. - Senior Jenny Payne captured the individual title in the 5K while two other Seawolves finished in the top four at the Central Connecticut State University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. The Stony Brook women's team also won the overall crown.

Payne has certainly got her season off to a strong start, winning both meets so far this season. Payne ran the CCSU course in 17:46.4, nine seconds ahead of runner-up Michele Palmer from Vermont. Stony Brook also grabbed the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. Junior Jackie Nunez placed third with her time of 18:05.7, while freshman Leonora Joy was fourth in 18:07.3.

Sophomore Laura Hixson also made the top 10, finishing in 18:47.9 for 10th place. Senior Jackie Berman wasn't far behind, finishing 11th in 18:51.2.

Stony Brook won its second women's team title of the season, totaling 29 points. Second-place Connecticut scored 78.

Dale Summerville had the best finish for the men's team in the 10K, placing 22nd with a time of 27:50.1. The Seawolves finished 11th overall.

Stony Brook is back in action when the Seawolves compete at the METS Championships on Oct. 4.
