ALBANY, N.Y. - Junior forward Sherry Jordan scored 31 points and added a
career-high 17 rebounds as Stony Brook defeated Albany 74-58 on Saturday
afternoon at the Recreation and Convocation Center. The Seawolves (4-11,
2-2), losers of five of their last six, snapped a two-game road losing
streak with the win.
Albany (6-9, 0-4) trailed 25-24 with 5:24 remaining in the first
half, but Jordan sparked a 10-4 run to close the half as she connected on a
fade away three-pointer as the shot clock ran down. Jordan, a preseason
all-conference pick, also connected on four free throws during that stretch
to give Stony Brook a 35-28 halftime advantage.
The Seawolves continued their surge at the start of the second half
tallying 12 of the first 16 points to build a 47-32 lead with 13:05 left.
Sophomore center Bojana Bogetic, who scored a career-high 21 points, had
five markers during the run which included her converting a free throw after
being fouled on a lay up.
The Great Danes battled back cutting the deficit to 62-54 with 3:54
left, as Sarah Sweetland scored in the paint off a steal and then sank the
ensuing free throw. During the 11-4 spurt, Maree Jones and Danielle
Hutcheson, who recorded her team-leading sixth double-double with 16 points
and 10 rebounds, each added four points.
Jordan, who connected on 12-of-18 field goals, scored six of the
game's next eight points on two jump shots and a fast break lay up off a
steal, as Stony Brook closed the game on a 12-4 run.
