Stephanie Pothier scored with 2:23 remaining to lift visiting Hartford to a 1-0 win over Stony Brook in an America East women's soccer match on Thursday evening at LaValle Stadium. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 5-8-1 overall and 1-3 in America East play, while the Hawks improved to 4-8-2 and 3-1-1.
With just under 2:30 remaining in regulation, Pothier took control of a loose ball after a scramble in front of the net and fired a shot to the right of Stony Brook goalkeeper Cindy Bennett and into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Hawks held on over the final minutes to secure the victory.
The Seawolves had their best chance at the 13:53 mark when Victoria Feliciano took a cross from about 15 yards out on the right side and fired a shot to the left corner of the net, but Hartford goalkeeper Heather Hinton was there for the save.
The Seawolves return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Orono, Maine, to take on Maine at 1:00 p.m.
