Sophomore JoAnn Montesarchio buried two of her four goals just three minutes into the game to pace the Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team to a 15-2 win over Stony Brook University Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers built a 10-2 halftime lead and held the Seawolves scoreless in the second half to pick up their second straight win and improve to 3-2 on the year.
SHU jumped out to a 5-0 before Danielle Werner and Jill Gridley scored for SBU to slice the lead to 5-2. The Pioneers then scored five more times before the half ended and held Stony Brook scoreless the rest of the way.
For Stony Brook, now 3-3 on the season, freshman Danielle Werner had a goal and an assist while Gina DeNezzo saw most of the action in goal for SBU, making 12 saves.
Stony Brook is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Manhattan. Face-off is 1 p.m.
