Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Michael Solazzo and Brendan Russell scored four goals apiece to propel Albany to a 12-8 win over Stony Brook in America East action Saturday night at LaValle Stadium. The loss was the fourth straight for Stony Brook which fell to 3-8, 1-2 in conference action while Albany improved to 5-5, 2-1 in the America East.

Chris Martocchia got Albany rolling at 10:51 of the first quarter when he raced around the back of the Stony Brook goal and slipped a shot past Jeff Slater for a 1-0 lead. Solazzo added to the lead when he ripped a lefty underhand shot from a tough angle that found the upper corner of the net at 7:03 and then Russell tallied 14 seconds later to put the visitors up 3-0.

Kevin Shea scored the first of his career-high five goals for Stony Brook to cut the lead to 3-1 later in the first and the teams traded goals before the end the quarter for a 5-2 Great Danes lead.

Two Russell goals to open the second quarter increased the Albany advantage to 7-2. Shea scored twice more in the quarter but goals from Matthew Green and Solazzo staked Albany to a 9-4 halftime lead.

Shea scored again at 13:46 of the third to make it 9-5 but Albany's Luke Daquino answered for the Great Danes at 6:57. Just over four minutes later, Shea found the net for his fifth goal and SBU was within 10-6 after three quarters.

Stony Brook would get no closer the rest of the way as the two teams traded goals in the final quarter.

Solazzo finished with four goals and an assist and Daquino, the America East's top scorer, totaled a goal and two assists. Kevin Rae made eight saves to earn his fifth win of the season.

Shea's five goals set a new career high, eclipsing his previous high of four that he set against Quinnipiac earlier this season. George LaFlare added two goals and an assist in the loss. Errol Wilson made six saves after relieving starter Jeff Slater in the second quarter.

Stony Brook is back in action next Saturday when it travels to Vermont. Face-off is 1 p.m.
